FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything people ask about the Karen Meter, from how the score is worked out to whether we keep your answers (we don't) and why there are ads (hosting isn't free).
Is the “Am I a Karen?” quiz scientific?
Not even slightly. The Karen Meter is built for entertainment — a light-hearted personality quiz, not a psychological assessment, diagnosis, or anything you should cite in an argument. Every result is a joke generated from a simple point tally.
How is my Karen score calculated?
You answer 12 everyday-friction scenarios, each worth 0–3 points depending on how dramatically you would react: zen acceptance scores 0, full escalation scores 3. We total the points, divide by the maximum of 36, and turn it into a 0–100% Karen score that maps to one of six tiers.
What are the six Karen tiers?
- Zero Karen Energy (0–15%) — a certified calming presence.
- Certified Chill (16–35%) — you keep the peace and save your energy for things that matter.
- Mildly Spicy (36–55%) — a little sass, a lot of patience.
- Manager-Curious (56–75%) — you know the manager's name. Proceed with caution.
- Advanced Karen (76–90%) — you travel with a mental binder of grievances.
- Peak Karen (91–100%) — legendary. Corporate keeps your photo at the front desk.
The neighbour quiz uses the same bands with its own set of verdicts about the people next door.
Do you store my answers or personal data?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is saved on our side — no accounts, no sign-up, no answer history. We do not collect personal information to run the quiz. See the Privacy Policy for details on advertising and analytics cookies.
What is the difference between the two quizzes?
Am I a Karen? turns the mirror on you. Are My Neighbors Karens? points it across the fence so you can assess the people next door with cold, hard, entirely made-up rigour. Same scoring, different target.
Can I share my Karen result with friends?
Absolutely — that is half the fun. Every result screen has one-tap buttons to copy your link or share your score to X, Facebook, or WhatsApp, so you can dare a friend to score worse.
Can I retake the quiz?
As many times as you like. Answers are not saved, so each run is a clean slate — handy if you want to re-test after a particularly patient day.
How accurate is my Karen score?
About as accurate as any quiz that describes itself as backed by zero science. Treat your tier as a conversation starter, not a verdict.
Is calling someone a “Karen” offensive?
The Karen Meter keeps it playful and pokes fun at behaviour, not people. It is a meme about entitlement and over-the-top reactions — take it in the spirit it is intended, and be kind to service workers while you are at it. Our guide on what a Karen actually is covers the fair criticism the label gets.
Where can I read more about the Karen phenomenon?
The Karen guides go deeper: where the meme came from, eleven classic behaviours and the psychology underneath, how to handle a Karen without losing your cool, and a seven-question self-check.
Why does the site show ads?
The Karen Meter is free to use, and advertising on some pages helps cover the cost of keeping it online. Ads are served by Google. The Privacy Policy explains how that works and how to opt out of personalised ads.
How do I report a bug or suggest a question?
Email us via the contact page. Bug reports are most useful with your browser and device; question ideas are most useful with the scenario and the four escalating answers.
